What Are Parasites, Bacterial Overgrowth, Candida & SIBO?

Your gut is home to trillions of microbes that help regulate digestion, immunity, and even mood. But when this delicate balance is disrupted, whether by parasites, pathogenic bacteria, excess yeast like Candida, or an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the wrong place (as in SIBO), you may begin to experience a wide range of persistent, often frustrating symptoms.

Parasites are organisms that can infect the gut, often from contaminated food, water, or travel. Bacterial overgrowth or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) occurs when bacteria build up where they shouldn’t, interfering with digestion and nutrient absorption. Candida overgrowth happens when this normally harmless yeast multiplies beyond healthy levels, often after antibiotic use, stress, or a high-sugar diet.

These imbalances are common but often overlooked. Many people live with uncomfortable symptoms for years without clear answers. Understanding what’s going on in the gut is an essential step towards recovery and feeling well again.
