Erica is a registered psychologist with a master’s degree in counselling psychology. She has also been a naturopath for over 20 years and believes in the power of nutrition and food to help mental health. She uses a holistic and integrative approach to therapy including Nutritional Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
Erica has a strong focus on working with trauma and uses Eye Movement Desensitisation Repatterning (EMDR) to help resolve past trauma, so people can get on with living in the present in a more motivated and peaceful way.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Repatterning (EMDR)
At the heart of EMDR theory is the idea that we all have an innate information processing system. Unfortunately under the exposure to negative, distressing traumatic life experiences normal memory processing breaks down. And when this happens our memories can become the foundation of pathology, dysfunction and suffering. Through EMDR we can deactivate the intense experiences of our past, which can open us to new potentials in our lives.
Research shows that EMDR can successfully be used for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and can also be used for pain management and the shock and trauma associated with accidents.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) & Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
MBCT incorporates mindfulness/relaxation practices as well as restructuring the negative self-sabotaging thoughts which can control us.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy involves practicing being present and in the moment, especially when experiencing strong emotions.
